How to Conduct a Performance Appraisal?

Over the recent past, performance appraisals are used by many managers and human resources departments to analysis and rate workforce. Although there have been many misuse and overuse of performance appraisals, which made it allergy for most employees, it is still a good tool if one company want a competitive workforce. These tips can help you in conducting a good performance appraisal.

  • Conduct performance appraisals on pre-scheduled dates or at regular intervals; not when you are thinking the workforce doesn’t that much productive or you want to cut-down your working costs.
  • Conduct performance appraisals with positive goals in mind, for analyzing things like how successful an employee is, what make him successful, what others lack and how you can make others successful. If you think negative result will also negative.
  • Never compare one employee with other in your appraisals, everyone is unique and everyone needs to be treated differently.
  • Never highlight the demerit of an employee too much. The truth is you cannot make an employee more productive by scolding, demoting and cutting-off his earnings. Highlight their good works and include his mistakes as his future challenges.
  • Never make performance appraisals public, let your employees to compete with each other in a positive way, secretly and sincerely.
