How to Free Your Data
With eSalesTrack, much data migration is a simple process. However, the more data you have, the more chance that the process will be complex. Here we introduce the basic concepts of data migration.
Simple Migration:
For small enterprises with a few straightforward sources of data (Excel files or basic text output from contact managers), a simple export and import is often all that is needed.
Advanced Migration:
When working with multiple data silos (data storage locations) and a broad selection of data, an understanding of the principles of data migration can help.
Fundamentals of Data Migration
- Formulize the data management: Establish a data manager who has the final say in data management topics. The definitions should re re-addressed and updated over time, and data maintenance rules and policies should be implemented.
- Map destination data: Create an integrated data model that includes rules for the data.
- Map source data: Determine what data exists, where it is at, and analyze it for key elements, formats, how often it is updated, any data errors, inconsistencies, omissions, or duplications.
- Map the data migration: With source destination data models, define the data changes that need to happen.
- Migrate the data Modify the data according to the map, and import it into the eSalesTrack system.
